The final day of NA’s began with a light sketchy northwest breeze (coming straight from the land) making it hard to get in quality races. However the race committee was able to get in three races.

In race one, after multiple general recalls, we got off the line with a nice lane. We crossed the fleet with a nice left shift, which in the end faded away and gave 4 boats on the right the ability to cross us. We rounded the weather mark in 5th, and stayed there for the rest of the race.

In the second race of the day (which in the end got abandoned) we had a great start and crossed the fleet on port. Good speed kept us ahead of the pack, and we rounded the weather mark second behind out training partners Stu and Graham- Needless to say coach Romain was stoked! However the race would not count in the end.

The final race came with another good start, however the good tactics faded away and we missed a major opportunity on the first shift of the beat. The miss sent us back to no man’s land because it caused us to completely miss the massive righty that came next. We found it hard to come back, and ended up finishing the race in 24th.

Overall we had a very good regatta. We set goals to practice our starts and get more familiar with our new centerboard- and we were able to get off the line easily and sail in a variety of conditions with the new blade. Also, we were able to hang with some of the best 470 sailors in the world- the same ones who appeared light years ahead of us over the summer. Our hard work all fall is starting to show its benefits!

We finished 7th overall of 43, and were also the top North American. Team Roberts/Martin are now North American Champs!
