It has now been about a month since we finished up the Sail for Gold regatta in Weymouth, England. Our “time off” has been very busy doing other sailing outside of the 470, making for some really fun experiences.

I (Adam) started with sailing in the NYYC team race, where I teamed up with friends Baker Potts and Matt Duggan. Although the finish position was worse than our expectations, big laughs and good times were largely at hand. Especially when my boat nearly sank due to faulty auto bailers! Next I spent some time in San Diego where I sailed Sabots and Lehman 12s for recreation and serious bragging rights. I decided that my sabot tacks are better now than back in junior sailing! It is amazing how much quality sailing you can find just within the local fleets at your own yacht club. Next I traveled to Boston to do the Boston College sailing alumni regatta. I clinched the title in a nail biting match race against friend and classmate Parker Dwyer. Finally, I went to the US Match Racing National Championships for the Prince of Whales trophy in Detroit, where I trimmed jib and spinnaker. After four crazy days of racing we came out victorious, and won the event!

Here is the team, (do not worry, the lifejacket was a loaner!)
Nick has also been keeping busy by sailing, surfing and exercising over the last few weeks. Those around the yacht club may have caught Nick shredding it up in the Lehman 12, or doing the same on some waves on the ocean side of Point Loma. Nick has also been doing some serious training in order to defend his seated row title at the upcoming Colorado Springs training camp. The bets are on, can he beat out all the star crews again?

As we look forward in our schedule, the sailing is really going to ramp up. We start with sailing the US Team Racing Nationals for the Hinman trophy in Seattle. Last year, we sailed together in one boat and our team (Team SDYC) placed 4th. This year Nick and I will both skipper for Team SDYC with our third being Mikee Anderson. A couple of days after the Hinman concludes, we are to report to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center for some strength and conditioning training. Immediately following the training at the OTC, we begin a training camp in Miami that will run until the end of October. After a 6-day break we are packing up and shipping down south to Perth, Australia where we meet our new (and final for the quad) boat. We will train for a week, sail the Perth test event for the upcoming ISAF combined World Championships, then do two more weeks of training before sailing the first ISAF World Cup regatta of the season, Sail Melbourne.

As you can see, we have a busy schedule ahead of us, but we cannot wait to get back into the swing of things!

Thank you for all of your support, we could never do this without you.

Adam and Nick
